11월 8일 러시아해군의 발표에 따르면 시험 항해 중이던 러시아 태평양 함대 소속 Project 971  Akula II급 핵 추진 잠수함 K-152 Nerpa 내에서 장비가 오작동하는 사고가 발생해 20명 이상이 숨지고 21명이 부상을 입은 대형사고가 발생하였습니다,

사고 내역은 잠수함 내에서 장비 오작동으로 프레온 가스가 유출돼 선원 3명과 민간인 17명이 가스 중독으로 숨졌으며 사고 당시 잠수함에는 선원 81명을 포함해 모두 208명이 승선하고 있었지만, 사고에도 불구하고 원자로에는 이상이 없었으며 방사능 수준도 일상적이었다는 소식입니다.

Amur 조선소에서 한달 전 건조되어 운항을 시작했으며 1주일 전 잠수시험에 착수했고 이번 사고는 동해상에서 블라디보스토크 항으로 향하던 중 발생한 것으로 알려졌습니다.

이 잠수함은 1991년부터 건조를 시작하였으나 자금 부족으로 지지부진하게 건조되다가 지난 10월 진수되었으며 다른 Akula급과 함께 인도에 리스하기로 계약된 잠수함으로 인도는 이미 20억달러의 리스금액을 지불하기 시작한 것으로 알려졌습니다.

Project 971 Щука-Б (Shchuka-B, 'Shchuka' meaning pike, NATO reporting name "Akula"), is a nuclear-powered attack submarine (SSN) first deployed by the Soviet Navy in 1986. The class is sometimes erroneously called the "Bars" class, after one of its members. Note that Akula ("shark") is the Soviet designation of the ballistic missile submarine class designated by NATO as the Typhoon class submarine.
