스케일드·컴포짓트 모델 348 화이트 나이트 투 (Scaled Composites Model 348
WhiteKnightTwo, WK2)는, 우주선 투 우주선을 발사하기 위해서 사용되는 수송용의 제트 항공기이다. 이것은 스케일드·컴포짓트에 의해, 2단계의 유인 탄도 비행 발사 시스템인 Tier 1b의 제일 단계로서 개발되었다. 화이트 나이트 투는 우주선 원(SpaceShipOne)의 모함인 화이트 나이트(이것은 Scaled Composites Model 281 Proteus 에 근거해 개발되었다)의 성공에 근거하고 있다.

의 베이스가 되고 있다.
최초의 화이트 나이트 투는 리처드·브란슨(Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson, 1950.7.18)
의 어머니에게 연관되어 VMS Eve와 이름 붙여졌다. 이것은 2008년 7월 28일에 공식으로 공개되어 2008년 12월 21일에 첫 비행을 실시했다. 두 번째의 화이트 나이트 투는 브론슨의 친한 친구인 스티븐·포셋트(James Stephen Fossett, 1944.4.22 - 2008.2.15)와 연관되어 VMS Spirit of Steve Fossett의 이름 붙여질 예정이다.
설계
화이트 나이트 투는, 대형의 우주선 투 우주선을 수송(en:captive carry)하기 위해서, 화이트 나이트에 비해 대략 3배의 크기다. 화이트 나이트 투는, B-29 슈퍼 요새와 동일한 정도의 날개폭(wingspan)이다. 크기비교와 관계없이, 화이트 나이트 투는 완벽한 최신의 항공기이다. 항공관제 케이블조차, 탄소 섬유제의 새롭게 특허를 받은 설계이다.
실제의 탄도 비행 전에 화이트 나이트 투는 몇 초간의 무중력 상태를 체험할 수 있는 프리뷰 비행을 실시한다. 화이트 나이트 투는 대략 60,000피트(18km)의 실용 한계 고도를 지니고 있어, 승객에게 암청색의 하늘을 제공한다. 이것에 의해 승객은 확실한 비행훈련을 실시할 수가 있다.
화이트 나이트 투는 쌍동기이며, 각각의 기체에 2개씩의 제트 엔진을 가진다. 하나의 기체는 우주선 투의 정확한 레플리카이다(승객의 훈련을 실시하기 위해). 또 하나의 기체는 할인료금의 당일치기 여행손님을 성층권에 옮기기 위한 것이다.
화이트 나이트 투의 설계는 사이즈·뒷날개·엔진의 구성·코쿠 피트의 배치 등, 화이트 나이트와 다르다. 화이트 나이트는 2개의 T자 뒷날개였지만, 화이트 나이트 투는 2개의 십자 뒷날개이다. 엔진의 구성도 크게 차이가 난다. 화이트 나이트 투에서는 엔진을 날개아래에 매달고 있지만, 화이트 나이트에서는 유일한 코쿠 피트의 양측으로 배치하고 있었다.

SpaceShip Two mothership lands at Airventure

Virgin Galactic's SpaceShip Two mothership WhiteKnight Two made its public debut today at 14:47 local time at the Experimental Aircraft Association Airventure air show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
The WhiteKnight Two prototype, named Eve, orbited the airport with two chase planes, one with the call sign Photo one, and then landed and taxied to the off-ramp that meets the Aeroshell square area of Wittman regional airport, where Airventure is always held.
The first tower chatter heard referring to the mothership was that it was "five miles south east" of the airport.
WhiteKnight Two took off from Mojave air and spaceport, in California, where its prime contractor Scaled Composites is based, at 07:37 local time (12:37 GMT) and flew at about 51,000ft (15,555m) and above 300kt (555km/h) for much of the trip to Wittman airport, a distance of over 1,400nm (2,700km).
During the week WK2 will conduct demonstration flights and on Tuesday Virgin group chairman and Virgin Galactic founder Sir Richard Branson will likely fly in the engineers seat aboard the mothership.
